Our First official NY gig

Sept. 26th, 2010

First Official NY gig

Our first official gig in NY was at the Warwick Valley Farmer’s Market.  We felt right at home alongside the fine produce.  We played Uncle Eye songs amidst a sea of strollers, kids with their Go Go pops and Soons’ fresh doughnuts with parents laughing and flapping their wings to Pollo Elastico .  We played songs from our Barely Contained EP like Coffee, my Love that had vendors and couples dancing.  We even pulled out Ale Brider which had many grandparents and others surprised and delighted to hear someone sing in Yiddish.

Even though people have been struggling with shifting economic unrest, the music in the air was taken in with the sunshine and it felt like photosynthesis.  It wasn’t so much about Julia and I as the collective hope and joy that people are willing to embrace and become when the chance arrises. We made lots of new friends and got to savor the incredible horseradish pickles of The Farmer’s Daughter.  It was a beautiful way to start.

Landed and ...

Made it! Such a gorgeous nation we live in.  A new soundtrack was necessary for each state. Check out the videos from our tour on the video page! Stay tuned and look for us in CA and NY in September....

We are officially releasing our Barely Contained EP on Sept. 11th in Berkeley, CA to help take back the date.  Blue Skies and hope for America and the world!

The Levins : 36
"The Levins have become luminaries on the Bay Area Jewish music scene..."

“Above all, The Levins’ harmonies recall the best of classic pop vocals… like
The Beatles, James Taylor and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.”

The Levins World Folk Ensemble
RADIO MAGICO: CD REVIEW 2010 by Serge Kozlovsky
There is a great joy and love in the music of The Levins ensemble. The Levins folk music speaks the universal language of hope and compassion.

The artists masterfully combines numerous ethnic instruments such as tabla, ney, bansuri Indian flute and various percussion with piano, keyboard, cello, violin, guitar and gentle vocals. As a result they create a very comfortable environment which harmonizes emotions and puts your mind in order. When you listen to this album you realize that the surrounding world is your good friend and we all are strongly connected in it.

In conclusion I could assert that My Friends Hafiz is just three-quarters of an hour of pure listening pleasure. This project is full of inspiring music of the open hearts.
